I'm Sally/Sono Sally

Hello, thank you for visiting - it's lovely to meet you. I'm Sally, an English/Emerald Isle-ish Gal from Norwich. I live near Verona in northern Italy with my three Italian children - Filippo, Camilla and my youngest son Umberto, who is also autistic.

While my inner self has always remained constant: positive, brave, practical and powerful, my outward appearance oscillates between two very separate personas:-  "La BombaRossa", and "Mrs. Blobby"

Persona 1. is La Bombarossa (roughly translated as TheRedhairedBomb) and the name speaks for itself. It was given to me by disperate Italians - both male and female - when I was young and fancy free. To be honest I outgrew it years ago, but as I'm fond of it and can't think of a better one for the moment, I'm sticking with it!

Persona 2. is Mrs. Blobby (this is my name for her). Mrs. Blobby is the opposite of her alter-ego. Her appearance and outward behavior are bland-to-invisible, and she is prepared to play a supporting role to the protagonists in her life; But she is never an under-dog. She is fully aware of  her value, and the importance of her part in the Play of Life.

I live in Italy now because when I was about ten, this country began to "call me", and it hasn't let up since. There were times, in my early twenties, when convention tried to persuade me to, " be sensible; settle down in Norwich; find a job and knuckle down to forging a career"; but any attempts at trying to deny the, almost tangible, tug of Italy always proved futile, and I finally settled in Verona. Later, I met and married the father of my children - Filippo, Camilla and Umberto (and though we're no longer married, he's still their great Papà).

So, it's been Mrs. Blobby who has reigned supreme for quite a while, as I've fully concentrated on nurturing my family. But now Filippo has left for university in England, and when  he's joined by his sister Camilla, Umberto and I will be free to head out for adventure.

Umberto (Umbi for short) is autistic, so while his brother and sister take-off, like veritable Concordes, from the runway of their childhood, Umbi's life and mine will be bound together for some time yet.

I feel it's definitely time for Mrs. Blobby put her feet up with a cup of tea, because La BombaRossa is ready to burst on the scene. Sx

Ciao, e grazie della visita. Mi chiamo Sally e sono un misto di Inglese e Irlandese, da Norwich in Inghilterra. Vivo vicino a Verona con i miei tre figli; Filippo, Camilla e Umberto, il mio figlio minore, che è anche autistico.

Mentre che interiormente il mio carattere è sempre rimasto costante: forte, positivo, coraggioso e pragmatico, la mia apparenza ha sempre oscillato tra due "Persone" apparentemente opposte, che chiameremo ‘La Bombarossa’ e ‘La Signora Blobby’. 

Quando avevo appena 10 anni ho sentito un’attrazione fortissima per l’Italia, che da allora non è affatto diminuita. C’erano momenti, all'inizio dei miei anni 20, in cui mi sarei arresa alle convezioni tradizionali di rimanere nella mia Norwich, trovarmi un lavoro e concentrarmi esclusivamente su una carriera.  Ma il magnetismo dell’Italia era talmente potente che era inutile opporsi e cosi mi sono trasferita a Verona.

Successivamente, ho conosciuto il uomo che sarebbe diventato il padre dei miei figli che, anche se non siamo più sposati, lui rimane sempre per loro un grande Papà.

Da tempo la 'Signora Blobby', la tutto-fare della famiglia, ha dominato su ‘La Bombarossa’ che è stata emarginata. Ma adesso che Filippo si è già stabilito all’univerità in Inghilterra e verrà presto raggiunto dalla sorella, io ed Umberto saremo liberi di partire verso avventure nuove. Umberto è autistico, perciò mentre che i suoi fratelli decollano verso il futuro dalla pista della loro infanzia, la vita mia e  di Umbi resteranno materialmente legate per del tempo ancora.

Ed ora, è il turno di LaBombaRossa per esplodere in scena ...... mentre che la ‘Signora Blobby’ si siede tranquilla con una bella tazza di tè.
